Sen. Bam Aquino has filed a resolution recognizing young Filipino karate athletes who won medals at the 3rd Asian Karate Youth Open Championship in Hangzhou, China, in July 2026.

Among the athletes honored were gold medalist Romeo Viktor Enriquez and bronze medalist Raphael Mariano Herrera.

“Ang babata pa, pero world-class na ang talento,” Aquino said in a press release, congratulating the young karatekas for bringing honor to the Philippines.

The senator filed Senate Resolution No. 580 to recognize the athletes’ achievements and performances in the international competition.

Other Filipino athletes who competed in the tournament included Ripley Tate Borromeo, Ellis Sebastian Canoza, Colin Isaiah Paolo, Wilfredo Apellido and Ysabella Arwen Varias.

Aquino also recognized the contributions of the athletes’ coaches, particularly Engene Stoner Dagohoy, a former captain of the Karate Pilipinas national team, as well as their parents and others who helped develop their skills.

“Inspirasyon ang kanilang talento sa iba pang mga kabataang Pilipino na mangarap, magsikap at maniwala sa kanilang kakayahan,” Aquino said.

He also called for continued support for sports development to give more young Filipinos opportunities to showcase their talents and pursue their aspirations.
