The death toll from the collapse of a nine-story building under construction in Angeles City has risen to 23, authorities confirmed on Wednesday, June 3.

The Unified Command overseeing the response reported that the victim was recovered at 9:12 a.m. during ongoing search, rescue, and retrieval operations at the site.

The latest recovery followed the discovery of victim 22, who was located at 4:04 a.m. and retrieved at 7:21 a.m. the same day.

The building collapsed on May 24, and most of those affected were reportedly construction workers on-site at the time of the incident.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the structural failure and said investigations remain ongoing as recovery efforts continue.
