Legendary K-pop soloist BoA has officially parted ways with SM Entertainment, the agency that has managed her career since her debut 25 years ago.

SM Entertainment confirmed the news in a statement released on Monday, January 12, announcing that BoA’s exclusive contract concluded on December 31, 2025, following what the company described as “long and in-depth discussions” between both sides.

In a Korean-to-English translated statement shared on SM Entertainment’s Instagram, the agency reflected on BoA’s groundbreaking career: “Since debuting at the age of 13 in 2000, BoA has pioneered the Korean Wave across Asia and beyond, earning the title ‘Asia’s Star.’ She has received immense love from global music fans and has served as a role model for countless junior artists who now lead the K-pop industry.”

Widely regarded as a trailblazer in the industry, BoA’s influence is defined by her historic achievements and record-setting career, driven by years of relentless dedication and passion.

The agency further highlighted her artistic evolution, stating, “From her groundbreaking debut that wrote a new chapter in Korean pop music history to her growth as a No.1 artist and producer, every moment has been unforgettable. We are truly honored to have shared those meaningful steps together.”

Throughout her career, BoA has stood as both a flagship artist and a defining symbol of SM Entertainment.

Despite the conclusion of their exclusive partnership, the company emphasized its continued support, saying, “Although our exclusive contract is coming to an end, we will continue to sincerely support BoA as she takes on new activities and challenges, fully showcasing her abilities and continuing to shine as ‘Asia’s Star.’”

SM also added, “We ask for your continued love and interest in BoA’s future journey,” followed by, “We also sincerely wish happiness and success for Kwon BoA not only as an artist, but as a person.”

To commemorate her legacy, SM Entertainment released a farewell video featuring behind-the-scenes footage from BoA’s concerts, promotional schedules, and various projects throughout her career.

“With deepest respect and gratitude. You’re still our No.1, BoA,” the agency stated.

BoA later shared her own message of appreciation on Instagram, expressing gratitude toward the company that shaped much of her career.

“As much as we shared meaningful time together, I leave without any regrets.
Thank you for the time we spent together, and I will continue to support the ever-shining SM Entertainment in the future.”

BoA debuted at just 13 years old with her first album ID; Peace B in August 2000. Notably, she was discovered by SM Entertainment scouts while accompanying her older brother to an audition — a moment that would change the trajectory of K-pop history.

She went on to become one of the most influential figures of the Korean Wave, successfully expanding her career into Japan, China, and the Americas. Among her most iconic tracks are “Only One,” “Hurricane Venus,” “NO. 1,” “Meri Kuri,” “Atlantis Princess,” and “Woman,” among many others.
