Several former Marines and alleged ex-bodyguards of former Congressman Zaldy Co have resurfaced before the Office of the Ombudsman as the anti-graft body continues its investigation into alleged anomalies involving Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) flood control projects.
Among the key witnesses is Johnny Buduan, who personally appeared before the Ombudsman on Wednesday morning, June 17, after submitting an affidavit to graft investigators last week.
Buduan, a former soldier, had previously been identified during congressional hearings as an alleged “bagman” tasked with delivering large sums of money to public officials in connection with the multi-billion-peso flood control controversy.
In his testimony before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, Buduan said he and several former security personnel had worked for Co for more than seven years and were allegedly instructed to deliver what he described as “packages” to government officials.
The Office of the Ombudsman has yet to release additional findings as its investigation into the alleged irregularities continues.
