Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, shared that their family supports Vice President Sara Duterte in her plan to run for president in the 2028 elections.
In an interview in The Hague with a vlogger, Kitty said the family is "very proud" of Sara Duterte’s announcement but admitted concerns about the challenges she may face.
“All of us are very proud. We talked about that. But also, there's this fear inkling for her, of course, she has children who are bata pa. And, you know, that makes all of us a target,” she said.
However, the youngest Duterte expressed confidence in her sister’s resilience, noting that the Vice President Duterte is braver than their father.
“Alam namin kaya niya, siya pa ba? Alam niyo ‘yung ugali ni VP Sara, mas matapang pa sa tatay namin. At fighter talaga, our papa raised us to be that way, all of us,” she added.
She also shared that the family discussed VP Duterte’s decision with her father, highlighting his pride and concern.
“Sabi niya, ‘although he is beaming with pride hearing that, he also feels for her talaga. Because he said that no amount of adulation and honor could ever compensate for the misery and agony of being president.’ Sabi niya, look at me now. Sabi niya, ito yung trono ko, pertaining to the chair beside him,” she recalled.
The Vice President officially announced on February 18 that she is willing to run for president in 2028.
As of now, she stands as the only person to officially enter the race for the presidency
