The new majority senators confirmed they will all attend the special session called by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri said the agenda for healthcare, education funding, and crisis response was clear, reported RH 28 Raymund Dadpaas on Monday.
Zubiri said Senator Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian’s bloc will be present to perform their duties, expecting professionalism and no delays.
“Walang drama, walang delay, walang dahilan para hindi magtrabaho. We should be ready to work and ready to help move forward whatever must be acted upon for the public good,” Zubiri said in a statement.
Senator Erwin Tulfo agreed they are ready for the full-day special session on Wednesday. He hopes that all pending bills will be resolved, including the promotion confirmation of a number of military and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) officials—for which the Commission on Appointments is slated to meet.
Tulfo said they are aiming to have at least 13 senators attend the session so as to install a new Senate president.
Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan said that even if the minority bloc backing Senator Alan Peter Cayetano does not show up to the session, so long as all 12 of them do, along with Senator Joel Villanueva—who has expressed willingness to attend—they will have quorum.
On Sunday, Villanueva said the Senate must prioritize public service over political quarrels, declaring his attendance in any special session to be organized.
“Hindi po pwedeng puro away na lang. Bilang mga lingkod-bayan, prayoridad po natin dapat ang siguruhin na patuloy na nagtatrabaho ang bawat isa sa atin, lalo na ang Senado para po sa ating mga kababayan,” Villanueva said.
