Philippine tennis star Alex Eala is set to face Indonesia’s Janice Tjen in a marquee singles match on Dec. 8 at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan as part of her highly anticipated homecoming.

The match will headline “Alex Eala Live: Game. Set. Celebrate,” presented by Tatler Philippines, which will bring together two of Southeast Asia’s rising tennis stars for a showcase of regional talent.

Organizers are targeting a new world record for the largest attendance at a tennis match, with the Philippine Arena capable of accommodating up to 55,000 spectators.

The current record was set in 2019, when Swiss great Roger Federer and Germany’s Alexander Zverev drew 42,517 fans for an exhibition match at Plaza de Toros México in Mexico City.

“We have a real chance to make tennis history,” Tatler Asia Chairman and CEO Michel Lamunière said.

Eala, who has emerged as one of the Philippines’ leading tennis players on the international stage, welcomed the opportunity to return home and compete before Filipino fans.

“Get ready for an unforgettable day of world class tennis and the celebration of national pride,” Eala said.

She also invited fans to join the celebration of Filipino culture and the sport.

“I can’t wait to celebrate this moment with you and celebrate our culture together,” Eala said.

The Dec. 8 event is expected to combine top-level tennis with a celebration of Philippine sports and culture, while giving Eala an opportunity to play in front of a potentially record-breaking home crowd.
