Philippine tennis ace Alex Eala opened her 2026 US Open campaign with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory over American Mary Stoiana on Wednesday at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The 17th-seeded Eala needed just two sets to dispatch Stoiana and advance to the Round of 64 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows.

Eala quickly established control in the opening set, racing to a 5-0 lead before closing it out, 6-1.

The Filipino then carried the momentum into the second set, building a 5-2 advantage before serving out the match.

Eala, currently ranked No. 18, will next face Ukraine's Oleksandra Oliynykova in the second round.

Her opening match was played at Louis Armstrong Stadium, the second-largest court at the US Open and a bigger stage than those assigned to some higher-ranked and seeded players.

The victory keeps Eala's strong 2026 season rolling as she continues her campaign in New York.
