Filipina tennis sensation Alexandra Eala slipped one spot to No. 32 in the latest rankings released by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), a slight dip from her career-best No. 31.
Despite the minor drop, Eala remains firmly in the elite circle as she enters the 2026 Indian Wells Open in California as one of the tournament’s top 32 seeded players.
First-Round Bye at Indian Wells
By virtue of her seeding, the 20-year-old Filipina received a first-round bye and advanced directly to the second round of the prestigious hardcourt tournament, also known as the BNP Paribas Open.
Eala will open her campaign against the winner of the first-round clash between China’s Zhang Shuai and Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska — both seasoned competitors on the WTA Tour.
The Indian Wells Open marks another significant milestone in Eala’s rapidly rising career, as she continues to compete consistently against the world’s top-ranked players.
Doubles Reunion with Iva Jovic
Apart from her singles stint, Eala will also compete in the doubles tournament, where she reunites with American partner Iva Jovic.
Eala currently holds the No. 105 ranking in doubles, while Jovic sits at No. 133. In singles, Eala stands at No. 32, with Jovic ranked No. 18.
The young duo first teamed up at the ASB Classic in Auckland last January, where they impressed with a semifinal finish.
With momentum from their previous partnership and Eala’s continued strong presence in the WTA rankings, all eyes will be on the Filipina star as she begins her Indian Wells campaign this week.
