Filipino tennis star Alex Eala has withdrawn from the WTA 125 Catalonia Open, which runs April 27 to May 3 in Spain, according to reports.

Eala’s name was initially included in the entry list but was absent from the official draw released on Sunday, confirming her withdrawal from the clay-court event. She also skipped last year’s edition of the tournament.

Other players who pulled out include Leylah Fernandez, Ann Li and Katerina Siniakova.

The Catalonia Open would have been Eala’s second WTA 125-level tournament this season, following her appearance at the inaugural Philippine Women’s Open in January.

The withdrawal comes as Eala continues her buildup for the French Open, with a packed European clay schedule ahead. She is set to compete in two tournaments in Italy following her campaign at the Mutua Madrid Open, where she reached the second round in both singles and doubles before being eliminated.

Eala is scheduled to play in the WTA 1000 Italian Open from May 5 to 17. She may also enter the Parma Ladies Open depending on her performance in Rome. These events form part of her preparation for Roland Garros, which runs from May 24 to June 7.

The 20-year-old has already played in three clay tournaments this season, including stops in Austria and Germany, but has yet to advance beyond the second round in any of them.

In Madrid, Eala fell to Elise Mertens in the second round of singles. In doubles, she and Turkish partner Zeynep Sönmez were defeated by the second-seeded pair Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend.

Eala is currently ranked No. 44 in the world and is aiming to climb back toward her career-high ranking of No. 29, achieved in March.
