Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala is set to compete in the Main Draw of the WTA 500 Upper Austria Ladies Linz, scheduled from April 6 to 12, 2026.

Eala will face a familiar challenge as she is drawn in the same tournament alongside reigning champion Ekaterina Aleksandrova of Russia.

The two last met in the quarterfinals of the Abu Dhabi Open on February 5, where Eala fell in straight sets to Aleksandrova. Despite the loss, the young Filipina has shown steady progress on the WTA circuit this season.

Previously, Eala’s campaign at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells ended in the Round of 16 against World No. 14 Linda Noskova, with a 2–6, 0–6 defeat. The experience, however, has only strengthened her resolve as she gears up for the Linz tournament.

Aside from the Upper Austria event, the 20-year-old Filipina, who reached the semifinal round last year, will also enter the 2026 Miami Open as the No. 32 seed.

In WTA 1000 tournaments, the top 32-ranked players receive a bye in the first round, giving Eala a favorable path and ensuring she will not face top-ranked opponents like Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, or Coco Gauff until at least the third round.

Eala’s breakthrough came at the 2025 Miami Open, where she scored victories over Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys, Paula Badosa, and a stunning quarterfinal sweep of World No. 2 Iga Swiatek, before her run ended in the semifinals against Jessica Pegula after a grueling 2.5-hour battle.
