Filipino tennis sensation Alexandra “Alex” Eala stayed in top form heading into the Australian Open, repeating over Olympic silver medalist Donna Vekic with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the Kooyong Classic in Melbourne on Wednesday.
The exhibition victory followed Eala’s earlier triumph over Vekic at the WTA 125 ASB Classic in New Zealand on January 6, where she rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win in the round of 32.
This time, Eala was more assertive, controlling rallies and breaking serve early in both sets to secure a straight-sets result.
The Kooyong Classic serves as a traditional warm-up for the Australian Open, and Eala’s back-to-back wins over a seasoned tour veteran highlight her growing confidence and readiness as she sharpens her game for the season’s first Grand Slam.
