

Filipina tennis player Alex Eala joined the 2026 Laureus World Sports Awards on Monday, April 20, at Cibeles Palace, appearing alongside some of the biggest names in global sport.
Eala captured attention on the red carpet wearing a Filipiniana-inspired outfit designed by her uncle, fashion designer Rhett Eala.
A social media post from Laureus Sport and the Women’s Tennis Association highlighted her appearance, which received reactions from fellow athletes including Victoria Mboko, Zeynep Sonmez, Katie Boulter, Eva Lys, Storm Sanders, Nadiia Kichenok, and gymnast Aleah Finnegan.
The Laureus Awards, regarded as one of sport’s most prestigious ceremonies, honor outstanding achievements across disciplines worldwide.
This year, Carlos Alcaraz was named Sportsman of the Year, while Aryna Sabalenka took Sportswoman of the Year honors. Gymnastics icon Nadia Comaneci received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The event was hosted by Novak Djokovic and Eileen Gu. Eala also shared a social media post featuring a selfie with the two hosts.
Other tennis players present included world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and Philippine Women’s Open first champion, Camila Osorio.
Following the ceremony, Eala is set to return to action at the Madrid Open, where she is scheduled to play her first-round match on Wednesday.
