Alex Eala climbed to No. 33 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, boosting her chances of securing a seeded spot in upcoming Grand Slam and WTA 1000 tournaments.
The Filipina tennis standout moved up four places from No. 37 after capturing the Birmingham Open title in the United Kingdom, her second WTA 125 crown this year.
She earned 125 ranking points following an unbeaten run, capped by a hard-fought 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 victory in the final against doubles partner Nikola Bartunkova.
Eala last reached the top 30 in March, peaking at a career-high No. 29 after a round-of-16 finish at Indian Wells.
She briefly slipped to No. 45 after failing to defend points from a previous deep run in Miami, but has since regained momentum with consistent results.
Now at No. 33, Eala is within striking distance of the top 32 cutoff for seeding in major tournaments — a key advantage that offers more favorable early-round matchups.
Her recent success also highlights her growing confidence on grass courts, where she was runner-up in Eastbourne last year.
Eala will next compete in the Queen’s Club Championships in London, opening her campaign against Chinese qualifier Zhang Shuai in the round of 32 as she continues her push back into the top 30.
