Just days after her spirited Australian Open debut, Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala has received a major boost for her upcoming Middle East swing.

Originally slated to compete in the qualifying rounds of the WTA 500 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, the 20-year-old phenom has been upgraded to a direct wildcard entry into the main draw.

This promotion spares the world no. 49 from the grueling qualifying matches and pits her directly against a field of elite competitors, including world no. 5 Elena Rybakina and defending champion Belinda Bencic.

The tournament, to be held at the Zayed Sports City International Tennis Centre, is scheduled to run from January 31 to February 7, 2026.

Before heading to the UAE, Eala is back on home soil to headline the inaugural Philippine Women’s Open, the first-ever WTA 125 event held in the country.

Fresh off her flight to Manila, Eala wasted no time hitting the courts. On Friday, she was seen holding her first practice session at the newly-refurbished Rizal Memorial Tennis Court.

While Eala prepares for her main draw appearance, the action in Manila officially begins on Saturday, January 24 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
