Alex Eala's run at the WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open came to an end Tuesday as the world No. 20 Filipino fell to No. 10 Amanda Anisimova, 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, in the Round of 32.

Eala made a strong start, breaking Anisimova to take the opening set 6-4 after a tightly contested battle that featured multiple breaks of serve.

The Filipino fought through a marathon fifth game in the first set, saving several break points before holding serve to take a 3-2 lead. She later broke back from 15-40 down to level the set at 4-4 before breaking Anisimova again to close out the opener.

Anisimova responded in the second set, overcoming Eala's early momentum and forcing a deciding set with a 6-4 win.

Eala took an early 2-0 lead in the third set after breaking Anisimova, but the American quickly regained control. Anisimova broke back and won four straight games to build a 5-2 advantage.

Serving for the match, Anisimova closed out the contest with a service winner and a 40-0 lead on match point.

The loss ends Eala's campaign in Cincinnati after she entered the tournament as the No. 17 seed and received a first-round bye.

Despite the defeat, Eala continues to make her mark on the WTA Tour after winning her first WTA 500 title at the Mubadala DC Open earlier this month, which propelled her to a career-high world No. 20 ranking.
