Alex Eala continued her impressive run at the 2026 ASB Classic, cruising past Croatia’s Petra Marčinko, 6–0, 6–2, to secure a spot in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Seeded fourth in the tournament, Eala wasted no time taking control, racing to a 3–0 lead in just 10 minutes and keeping the momentum throughout the match.
With a strong contingent of Filipino fans cheering her on, she dominated rallies with precise ball-striking, sharp footwork, and aggressive returns, closing out the first set in under 30 minutes without dropping a game.
Marčinko, who finished in 2021 as the world No. 1 junior, could not match Eala’s power and consistency, allowing the Filipina star to maintain a commanding lead in the second set before sealing the match 6–0, 6–2.
Eala will next face the winner of the clash between fifth seed Magda Linette (world No. 52) and Elisabetta Cocciaretto (world No. 81), with the quarterfinal match set to follow immediately after their encounter.
