Alex Eala is set to kick off her Asian swing on high ground as she receives a first-round bye at the Singapore Tennis Open.

Entering the tournament seeded No. 3, Eala bypasses the opening round of 32 and moves straight into the round of 16. She awaits the winner of the first-round matchup between Russia’s Tatiana Prozorova and Belgium’s Sofia Costoulas.

Eala is scheduled to return to court action on Wednesday, September 23 (Manila time).

Eala to represent PH in Asian games 2026

The 21-year old is also expected to represent the Philippines in the 2026 Asian games in japan, running from September 19 to October 4.

Her decision to prioritize national duty comes amid the potential sanctions from the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), as competing in the Asian Games means skipping the China Open, which is scheduled from September 28 to October 11.

Initial campaign details state that Eala will anchor the country’s national tennis squad in two events. She is set to compete in the women’s single and will link up with Shaira Hope Rivera to lead the Philippines’ entry in the women’s doubles.
