Isabela Governor Rodolfo “Rodito” Albano III assured residents of the provincial government’s swift response and continued assistance to families and communities affected by recent bad weather and flooding in the province.
In an interview with DZRH’s Dos Por Dos on Wednesday, Oct. 7, Albano said the provincial government, in coordination with the national government and private individuals, has been closely monitoring the situation and providing assistance to affected residents.
“Ang mahalaga sa atin ngayon ay kaligtasan at kapakanan ng bawat Isabelaño," Abalano said.
He said water levels rose in some low-lying areas, but relief goods and other necessary support were immediately distributed to help ensure the safety and welfare of residents.
Albano also explained that Isabela had earlier declared a state of calamity due to water shortages that affected farmers.
“Noon pa ano ah doon pa kami nag-declare ng halos ah simula pala nung taon nag-declare lang kami ng calamity kasi walang tubig eh. At ah naapektuhan yung mga farmers buti naman nakatulog yung DSWD pati yung DA” Albano said.
He said the province had also been preparing for the possible effects of a "Super El Niño," as forecast by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Albano said cloud seeding conducted by the Department of Agriculture (DA) helped mitigate some of the effects of the dry conditions.
The governor also underscored the importance of dredging creeks to improve water flow and prevent flooding.
He likewise discussed the possible use of hydroseeding, a technique that promotes vegetation growth on slopes, to help prevent soil erosion and support water retention in the Magat Dam.
Albano expressed his appreciation to various sectors that have continued to extend assistance to affected communities in the province.
