Alang-Alang youth brought honor to their province of Leyte and the Philippines after taking a spot among the 50 global winners of the 2026 Youth4Climate Call For Solutions.

The Alangalang Lingganay Performing Arts (ALPA) will receive $30,000 to fund their project, reported RH 32 Jimmy Angay-Angay.

This fund, amounting to almost ₱2 million, was provided through an initiative led by both the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Italian government.

The organization formally received its award in Rome, Italy.

According to Leyte Governor Jericho Petilla, the group’s project, titled “Waste to Wear, Waste to Build,” aims to reuse discarded textile waste in producing sustainable construction materials such as tiles and wall cladding—also generating opportunities for green livelihoods, youth development, and circular economy innovation.

“With the support of BAYO Foundation and Race to Net Zero Philippines, the initiative will be implemented in Alangalang, with plans to establish a community-based Sustainability Hub,” said Alang-Alang Municipal Mayor Lovely Alangalang in a congratulatory social media post honoring the organization’s win.

Alangalang said the achievement demonstrates the potential of the municipality’s homegrown organizations and youth leaders in contributing to solutions to challenges faced globally, while creating opportunities for their own communities.
