Akbayan Party-list is pushing for amendments to the Batas Kasambahay (Domestic Workers Act) to strengthen the recognition, protection and compensation of domestic workers.

Akbayan Rep. Perci Cendaña said House Bill 11764 seeks to improve wages, working hours and employment conditions for domestic workers.

The proposal was raised in connection with the observance of the International Day of Care and Support.

“Deserve niyong Akbayan sa laban para sa mas makatarungang sahod, mas makataong oras ng paggawa, at mas maayos na kondisyon sa trabaho,” Cendaña said in an online post on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Under the bill, the definition of domestic workers would be expanded to include house caretakers, private household drivers, live-in and live-out domestic workers, part-time workers, those employed by multiple households and workers hired through online platforms.
