The House Minority group will actively participate in the discussion of the 2026 proposed national budget, which will start on Monday, August 18.
According to House Assistant Minority Leader and Akbayan Partylist Representative Chel Diokno, they will be closely scrutinizing the 2026 proposed national budget worth P6.793 trillion for next year, because it is important to know where the taxes go that are paid by the people.
“Magiging fiscalizers ang Akbayan, kailangan natin malaman saan ba talaga napupunta yung pera ng mga Pilipino at saan ba talaga nagagamit yan,” he said.
He also stated that they have prepared questions for various government agencies to ask for an explanation on how the budgets will be spent for next year, ensuring that the funds are spent correctly and properly.
“Dahil ang paniwala namin tulad ng nai-file na namin na joint resolution ay dapat open at transparent ang buong budget process hanggang sa bicam,” Diokno added.
Meanwhile, after DepEd gained the top sector to receive the biggest allocations for 2026, Diokno called on his fellow lawmakers to support the proposal to make teaching about the West Philippine Sea (WPS) mandatory in primary education.
This aims to raise awareness among the youth regarding the sovereignty and rights of the Philippines in the WPS.
