

Akbayan Party-list Rep. Dadah Kiriam Ismula expressed deep sadness and concern following a shooting incident at the Ateneo de Zamboanga Junior High School in Barangay Tumaga, Zamboanga City on Tuesday, August 18.
“As a resident of Zamboanga City, I am deeply saddened and concerned by the shooting at the Ateneo de Zamboanga High School campus in Tumaga this morning,” she said in a statement.
“My heart goes out to the students, teachers, staff, parents, and the entire Zamboanga City community. Our schools must always remain as safe spaces for our children,” she added.
Kiriam said Akbayan Party-list is ready to support the community in “every way possible” in the aftermath of the tragedy.
The lawmaker also appealed to the public to refrain from spreading unverified information out of respect for the victims’ families.
On Tuesday morning, two students, grades 8 and 10, died at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) Junior High School.
Police reported that the eighth-grade shooting suspect was wielding a 9mm Glock pistol when he entered the building’s Room 404 and shot one student unprovoked.
Moreover, he streamed the incident live through his Facebook account, said Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
