The Department of Agriculture (DA) reported that agricultural losses from the combined impact of Typhoons Nando and Opong have reached nearly ₱1.4 billion, with rice and corn farms taking the heaviest hit.
In an interview on DZRH Stories: Pinoy Documentaries, DA Asec. Arnel de Mesa said Cagayan Valley (Region II) recorded the highest losses at ₱653 million, followed by Ilocos Norte at ₱169 million and Apayao at ₱71 million.
Despite the significant damage, the DA does not expect a sudden spike in rice prices, noting that the vegetable sector will likely see temporary adjustments.
He also assured the public that a price freeze is automatically enforced in areas where a state of calamity has been declared, helping stabilize food supply and protect consumers.
