The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has decided on hosting simple celebrations this December, amid the far-reaching corruption controversy that has swept the country.
“... Dahil nga po dito sa nangyayaring corruption scandal. At dahil nga po nakita natin na milyun-milyon, bilyon pa, ang ninakaw sa gobyerno, ay hindi na po tayo magse-celebrate ng bongga, dahil gusto nating magtipid,” AFP Chief-of-Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. said.
Brawner announced that, aside from Christmas parties, this also includes their 90th anniversary event, reported RH 52 Edniel Parrosa.
In initial plans, the AFP was set to parade its new ships and showcase its latest planes and choppers in a flyby.
However, as a cost-cutting measure amid corruption scandals, the military will only be having the traditional command conference, a boodle fight, and awarding ceremony.
In addition, Brawner instructed personnel in every office to hold modest Christmas gatherings.
Earlier, Commander-in-Chief President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ordered all government agencies to hold simple year-enders in solidarity with earthquake and flood victims.
