The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Tuesday assured that it is taking reports of security threats in relation to Independence Day seriously, according to a report by RH 52 Edniel Parrosa.
AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. told the press that rumors of a planned attack targeting Malacañang on June 12, Friday, have reached the military’s attention. They are also aware of social media posts encouraging mobilization during the holiday celebrations.
Moreover, the AFP is currently coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other uniformed agencies.
“Sineseryoso po natin ‘yung mga ganitong banta, ‘yung mga reports na ganito. And so we are continuously monitoring the situation through our intelligence units, and we are working closely also with (the) Philippine National Police and the other uniformed services,” Brawner said.
On Thursday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said it will be deploying over 90,000 personnel nationwide to secure Independence Day celebrations.
In preparation, all units have been placed under Full Alert Status effective 5:00 p.m. on June 11 until 11:59 p.m. on June 12, ensuring continuous deployment readiness, quick response capability, and sustained security coverage throughout the Independence Day observance.
