The AFP Western and Northern Commands are on alert should their assistance be required for the Atin Ito civilian mission in the West Philippine Sea.
The socio-civic group’s third mission kicks off today, highlighted by two concerts—one in El Nido, Palawan, and another on Pag-asa Island.
Scheduled from May 26 to 30, the musical voyage will gather Filipino and international artists, fisherfolk, and civil society leaders for a lineup of events focused on cultural and artistic expression.
Furthermore, the initiative aims to underscore the importance of peace and regional solidarity in the West Philippine Sea, a region marked by ongoing territorial tensions.
The sea concert will feature dialogue sessions, cultural exchanges, and musical performances to highlight the role of civil society and cultural diplomacy in promoting regional peace.
In an interview with DZRH, Navy Spokesman for the West Philippine Sea, Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, confirmed that the 'Atin Ito' group had reached out to them for coordination.
However, Trinidad did not disclose the number or type of assets on standby to provide assistance or security, saying it would depend on the strategy of WESCOM or NOLCOM.
He emphasized that the military's response is not limited to naval forces and could involve assets from the Air Force, depending on the situation.
The senior naval officer thanked the group for its support in asserting the country’s sovereignty over the area.
“We are ready for whatever eventuality. Kung kailang nila ng tulong, nandiyan naman tayo," said Trinidad.
“At tayo ay nagpapasalamat sapagkat pinapakita ng ating mga non-government partners na sila ay sumusuporta sa paninindigan natin sa West Philippine Sea," he added.
