The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) confirmed that a “landing incident” involving a U.S. C-146 aircraft occurred in Laoac, Pangasinan on Tuesday, February 24, as reported by Edniel Parrosa.
According to the AFP, the activity was part of a joint roadway landing exercise between the United States Air Force and Filipino forces as preparation for disaster response and national defense operations.
Although it was not mentioned in the AFP’s official statement, the Associated Press earlier reported that five Americans were injured in the incident.
The AFP, however, said that all pilots and crew members were safe, and no civilians were hurt.
The military emphasized that the exercise was conducted in a controlled training environment.
Prior to reports of the incident, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. personally witnessed the landing operations exercise of the U.S. Special Tactics Team.
The Department of National Defense (DND) said the activity marked the first highway landing of a C-146 Wolfhound aircraft in the Philippines, and only the second in Asia.
