The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Tuesday, June 30, issued a statement following the lightning rally staged by members of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) along EDSA in Quezon City, assuring the public that it is closely coordinating with law enforcement agencies to monitor the situation.
According to the AFP, its NCR-based units remain in close coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other concerned government agencies to ensure public safety and maintain order during the gathering.
In its statement, the military emphasized that it recognizes and respects every Filipino's constitutional right to peacefully assemble and express their views, while reminding organizers and participants that public activities must comply with existing laws, local regulations, and the necessary permits issued by the appropriate authorities.
“The AFP recognizes and respects the constitutional right of every Filipino to peacefully assemble and express their views. At the same time, we underscore that all public activities must be conducted in accordance with existing laws, local regulations, and the necessary permits issued by the appropriate authorities,” the AFP said.
The military also encouraged rally organizers to ensure that their activities do not unnecessarily disrupt public order or cause inconvenience to commuters, workers, students, and the general public.
“We likewise encourage organizers to ensure that their activities do not unduly disrupt public order or cause unnecessary inconvenience to commuters, workers, students, and other members of the public,” it added.
The AFP further reiterated that, as a professional and non-partisan institution, it remains committed to supporting national efforts that uphold peace, public safety, and the rule of law while respecting the rights and welfare of all Filipinos.
The statement came after a pre-dawn gathering along EDSA caused traffic disruptions in parts of Metro Manila, prompting authorities to monitor the situation and implement traffic management measures.
