House prosecution team spokesperson Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong said Friday that the prosecution will comply with any directive from the Senate impeachment court on social media posts related to the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Adiong said the prosecution expects the senator-judges to likewise strictly follow the Senate's impeachment rules, including any restrictions aimed at preventing violations of the sub judice rule.

“This impeachment trial is the first impeachment trial being conducted in the age of social media,” Adiong said. He noted that some fake news circulating online involves spliced videos that could present statements made during the trial out of context.

He said the House prosecution panel would respect and comply with whatever directive the impeachment court issues on social media content.

However, Adiong said the same standards should apply not only to the prosecution and defense panels but also to the sitting senator-judges.

He pointed to instances in recent weeks when some senator-judges posted spliced videos related to oral arguments, saying such content could show proceedings without the proper context.

“If we want to avoid violating the sub judice rule, this should not be imposed only on one particular panel, whether the prosecution or the defense,” Adiong said.

He said any restriction on social media uploads or content that could violate the rule should be applied universally and followed by the entire impeachment court, including the sitting senator-judges.

“The application should be universal, and the entire court should comply — not just the prosecution panel and the defense, but also our sitting senator-judges,” Adiong said.
