The House prosecution panel said on Wednesday that the testimonies of their two witnesses were sufficient to establish the soundness of Article IV or the allegation of grave threats against Vice President Sara Duterte.

“Surplusage, kalabisan, redundancy, paulit-ulit, lack of necessity—hindi na kailangan,” Lead Prosecutor and Batangas 2nd District Rep. Gerville Luistro said of additional witnesses during a press conference after the sixth day of the impeachment trial.

Prosecutor and Iloilo 3rd District Rep. Lorenz Defensor also said that they do not wish to tire people out with repetitive, concurring accounts that have already been well-established.

“Dahil sa ngayon, kumpleto na, at hindi na natin kailangan dagdagan pa. It’s unnecessary, it’s redundant, and ayaw din naming sabihin ng mga taong paulit-ulit nalang. Mahirap na magsawa ang mga tao at tsaka mawala ang kanilang atensyon kung nakuha na natin ang lahat ng dapat natin makuha,” he said.

On why the prosecution withdrew even the psychiatrist from its roster of witnesses, private prosecutor Atty. Lorna Patajo-Kapunan explained there is no need for one to evaluate Duterte’s state of mind and the graveness of her threats.

“When a person reacts that way, do you need a psychiatrist, psychologist to interpret, when what you see is, by itself, self-explanatory?” she said.

The unnamed psychiatrist and a sheriff Duterte allegedly assaulted are among the five witnesses formally withdrawn by the prosecution panel on Wednesday.

“Considering that these five witnesses are included in our pre-trial order, your Honor, we respectfully withdraw their names among the prosecution’s witnesses for Article IV - threat,” Luistro told the impeachment court earlier.
