An active member of the New People’s Army surrendered to government forces in Northern Samar on Monday, police said, as authorities continue reintegration efforts under the government’s amnesty and support programs.

The 39-year-old individual, a member of a militia unit identified as FC2SRC Emporium and a resident of Catarman, voluntarily went to the First Northern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company to signal his return to government custody, according to a report from the unit.

Authorities said he turned over an improvised shotgun locally known in the province as a “Bardog,” which had no serial number or identifying marks, along with a single round of ammunition.

He is currently under police custody for documentation and is undergoing a tactical interview prior to processing under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and the Local Social Integration Program (LSIP), which provide assistance and reintegration support to former rebels.

Police Lt. Col. Doceo, commander of the unit, urged remaining members of the armed group to follow the surrenderer’s example and choose the path of peace, saying authorities remain open to those willing to abandon the armed struggle.

He added that the unit will continue to accept New People’s Army members in the province who are willing to surrender and reintegrate into mainstream society through government programs.
