Tingog Party-list Representative Jude Acidre has raised concerns over the Senate’s decision to create a Blue Ribbon subcommittee while impeachment proceedings are ongoing, questioning its timing and possible implications on accountability efforts.
While reiterating his support for transparency and investigations, Acidre cautioned that such actions should not be used to “deflect attention” from the impeachment process currently under scrutiny.
“I would react with caution kasi I'm not so sure how they do their process sa Senate,” Acidre said, noting that in the House of Representatives, subcommittees are typically created by the mother committee and approved through proper plenary procedures.
He also expressed uncertainty over the urgency of the move, asking, “Why the sudden shift? Why the sudden urgency?” amid ongoing public focus on impeachment-related developments.
Acidre further stressed that accountability proceedings must be anchored on evidence and the rule of law, but should proceed through the proper forum, pointing to the Ombudsman as the appropriate venue for certain cases.
“Ang proseso ng searching for accountability should proceed… pero it should not be used as a mechanism to deflect attention from the ongoing impeachment trial,” he said.
The lawmaker also warned against perceptions that the move could undermine impeachment proceedings, emphasizing the need to maintain public trust and ensure that all accountability measures remain within constitutional and procedural bounds.
