Congressman-elect Marcy Teodoro hailed the Commission on Elections (Comelec) En Banc’s decision to junk the disqualification case filed against him, calling it a triumph for democracy and the people of Marikina.
In a statement released on Wednesday, June 26, Teodoro welcomed the Comelec En Banc ruling granting the consolidated motions for reconsideration in his favor.
“Democracy has prevailed. This is a victory for the people of Marikina,” Teodoro said.
This decision effectively upholds the legitimacy of his candidacy as representative of Marikina’s First District.
“We have received notice that the Comelec En Banc has officially granted the Consolidated Motions for Reconsideration filed on my behalf. This decision validates the legitimacy of my Certificate of Candidacy for Member of the House of Representatives for the First District of Marikina City," he added.
The poll body earlier deferred Teodoro’s proclamation following questions about his residency and alleged misrepresentation in his Certificate of Candidacy (COC).
The former mayor defeated Senate Minority Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III in the recent local elections, but his assumption to office was held up by the disqualification case.
In its ruling, Comelec found no material misrepresentation in Teodoro’s COC and affirmed that he had not abandoned his domicile in the First District, particularly Barangay San Roque.
“My connection, familial, social and political, has always been rooted in Barangay San Roque. I was able to clearly prove my actual and physical residency there,” he said.
Teodoro said the resolution removes all legal impediments to his official proclamation as the duly elected district representative.
“With this latest development, there is no more hindrance to my proclamation,” he added.
“I welcome this decision. It affirms what we’ve believed from the beginning, that the voice of the people matters and should never be silenced. The people of Marikina have spoken."
Teodoro expressed deep gratitude for the support and trust of his constituents and urged them to move forward together.
“This victory belongs to all of us. Let’s continue moving forward together for the city we love and serve,” he said.
Earlier, Teodoro’s wife, former Congresswoman Maan Teodoro, was proclaimed the newly elected mayor of Marikina.
