

Nine fishermen were arrested in a joint maritime enforcement operation for alleged illegal fishing activities in the coastal waters of Orion, authorities said.
The operation was carried out by the Philippine National Police (PNP)–Orion, in coordination with the local Bantay Dagat and the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company. The suspects were apprehended for violating municipal ordinances prohibiting the use of active fishing gear, unauthorized fish aggregating devices, destructive fishing methods, and commercial fishing within municipal waters.
Confiscated during the operation were one motorized fishing boat, various fishing equipment, and assorted fish catch with an estimated market value of ₱1,104,400. Authorities said the enforcement action forms part of intensified efforts to protect marine resources and ensure compliance with local fisheries regulations.
The arrested individuals and seized evidence were brought to the Orion Municipal Police Station for proper documentation and the filing of appropriate charges. Officials reiterated their commitment to safeguarding coastal waters from illegal and destructive fishing practices.
