87 percent of Filipinos said they experienced climate change in the past three years, according to a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released Thursday, February 22.

In an in-person survey conducted from December 8 to 11 last year, the results showed that by magnitude, 19 percent have experienced climate change’s severe impact, 43 percent said it was moderate, and 24 percent said it had little impact on their lives.

However, the SWS polls noted a slight decrease in results.

“The December 2023 percentage of those who have personally experienced the impacts of climate change fell by 7 points from October 2023 and 6 points from December 2022, but it was similar to March 2017 and March 2013,” the SWS said.

Meanwhile, the polling firm also asked the public about their perceived danger regarding climate change’s impacts on health, with a majority of Filipinos believing it threatens their physical and mental health

88 percent of Filipinos see climate change as a danger to their physical health and 81 percent of them believe it would pose a risk to their mental health, especially those who experienced its severe impacts.

SWS interviewed 1,200 adults nationwide for the survey, with 300 each in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
