At least 83 detainees will be relocated to the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) as the National Bureau of Investigation's (NBI) headquarters in Manila are razed to make way for a new building.
The NBI and the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in March, allowing the NBP to be used as a temporary holding facility for anyone apprehended by the NBI.
According to the BuCor, the NBI would continue to be responsible for deploying staff to secure the inmates.
Meanwhile, NBI officers apprehended a suspect posing as Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin's relative.
On July 5, John Laurence Rin was apprehended during an entrapment operation in a restaurant in Quezon City.
The NBI stated that Rin would identify himself to potential victims as Bersamin's nephew and promised to enable directorships and undersecretary jobs at Malacañang.
The suspect's strategy involves selling bogus appointments through Bersamin's office.
The NBI inmates will be transferred to Building 14 of the NBP.
