Around 80,000 families in Manila are set to benefit from the “Biyayang Bigas sa Maynila” program, a new initiative by the city government that will run for six months starting April 16.
During a meeting with local bakers on Thursday, April 9, Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso announced that each beneficiary will receive 10 kilograms of rice.
The program will cover not only the transportation sector but also various groups, including workers in the service sector.
The initiative is funded through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF), with ₱286 million allocated for its implementation in the city.
City officials said the program aims to provide additional assistance to residents amid the ongoing crisis while also supporting local farmers.
It is part of broader social relief efforts in coordination with the Office of the President under the LGSF.
