Eight of nine luxury vehicles reportedly linked to anomalous flood control and other major infrastructure projects were seized by authorities from a parking facility in Taguig City on Thursday, January 8.
The eight “high-value” vehicles, estimated to be worth ₱143 million, were seized from two parking levels by a composite team, said the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in a statement.
Once located and logged, the vehicles were brought to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) Office in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) for temporary safekeeping pending further legal proceedings.
The operation was carried out pursuant to several court-issued search warrants against a number of companies for probable violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno highlighted the importance of such an operation as the year begins.
“This early-year enforcement action demonstrates the Bureau of Customs’ firm dedication to its mandate and its active role in supporting national efforts to address serious irregularities, including those linked to flood control projects,” he said.
The operation was carried out by personnel from the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service–Manila International Container Port (CIIS-MICP), Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Land Transportation Office (LTO), Philippine National Police (PNP), Highway Patrol Group (HPG), Taguig City Police, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), along with the designated customs examiner, support from the ICI, and barangay officials.
