A total of 748.78 metric tons of garbage was removed from the Redemptorist Water Channel in Baclaran, Parañaque City, during a four-day clearing operation, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.

The MMDA said the cleanup collected the equivalent of 203 truckloads of trash from the open canal, which had become heavily clogged with waste.

Mayor Edwin Olivarez further stated that the MMDA will conduct an investigation into the accumulation of garbage in the water channel.

The local government also supports the installation of a floodgate and the addition of trash traps in the area to prevent a similar buildup of waste.

Authorities said the clearing operation has left the water channel free of the garbage that had accumulated in the area.
