

Seven soldiers and two civilians, including a 10-year-old boy, were wounded in an ambush on a Philippine Army convoy in Lamitan, Basilan, on Thursday night, the second attack on the troops.
According to a report by Jun Dimacutac, the convoy of the Army’s 45th Infantry Battalion was ambushed at about 7 p.m. in Barangay Sabong, based on the initial reports from the battalion and the Division Reconnaissance Company.
The initial report listed six wounded soldiers and two civilians. The number of injured soldiers later rose to seven.
The wounded troops were identified as Corporal Lagmay, Technical Sgt. Edgardo Danzalan Gayao, Staff Sgt. Noel Ewad Backas, Private First Class Ismael Balberos Degamo, Private First Class Felipe Tercio Tañamor Jr. and Staff Sgt. Dwight Eissen Villamil. Another wounded person was identified as John Doe.
The soldiers were taken to the Lamitan District Hospital for treatment.
The troops were meeting colleagues arriving from Zamboanga and were heading back to the 45th Infantry Battalion headquarters in Basilan when the ambush occurred, according to the report.
The Army’s 1101st Infantry Brigade has launched a manhunt for the attackers, who were reportedly about 20 armed individuals.
