A 60-year-old man died after falling into a deep well in a wooded area in Abucay, Bataan.
In a report by Danny Cumilang on RH Balita, rescuers recovered his body at around 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10.
According to the victim’s sibling, a barangay councilor, the family began searching for him after he failed to return home since noon on Friday, Oct. 9.
At around 3 a.m. on Saturday, the victim’s children and siblings found his tricycle parked in a grassy area near a local restaurant. They later discovered his body inside the well.
The victim’s sibling said the man regularly collected wood, which he gave to his nephew who sells flowers for use as flower holders.
Rescue teams from various agencies worked together to retrieve the victim from the well, which was estimated to be 40 to 60 feet deep. The recovery operation proved difficult, and his body was retrieved at around 11 a.m.
Residents said the well was dug by treasure hunters about 15 years ago but was abandoned after they failed to find any valuables. Some animals had also reportedly fallen into the well.
The victim’s body was brought to the nearest funeral home.
