Six to seven young individuals were arrested on Monday after initiating a conflict during a demolition operation at Panday Creek, Barangay Palingon Tipas in Taguig City.
RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort reported that Taguig City Police Chief PCol. Julius Añonuevo said the suspects will face charges related to inflicting physical injury.
“Hindi na (sila) tumigil sa pagbabato, e, so we have to arrest them. ‘Yun naman ang purpose namin dito. Although we exercise maximum tolerance, nakita niyo naman natin, pinagbabato kami, naka-depensa lang kami… Ayaw nilang tumigil and we have to force na pumasok at mang-aresto,” he said in an interview.
Añonuevo reported that a drone caught the youths atop a tower, hurling bottles from above. They had also supposedly devised bottles with chili peppers in them, which the Taguig police chief implied might burn the skin of whoever would come in contact with the liquid.
“‘Di nila alam kasi may drone tayo… Mga kabataan daw, nambabato, tingnan mo lumilipad ang bote o, ‘yan ang naging resulta. Ang daming bote doon sa mobile, tingnan niyo ‘yung mga bote. Mayroon pa sila prinepare na—hindi ko alam kung anong tawag doon, parang may mga sili,” he told reporters.
Meanwhile, two members of the demolition team were apprehended following reports of theft.
Six of the demolition team members were also injured, according to the Wawa Fire Station. Some sustained wounds on their hands and mouth after being hit by the bottles thrown down.
However, they were successful in entering the homes to be demolished and tore them down, in compliance with a writ of demolition. These houses have been standing since 2012, with some, since rising to four storeys.
A number of residents refused to leave the area.
