6 NPA members surrender to police in Eastern Visayas
by Mary Antalan28 April 2026

At least six members of the New People’s Army (NPA) have surrendered to authorities in Eastern Visayas, according to Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8).

According to a report by Jimmy Angay-angay, PRO-8 Regional Director Brigadier General Jason Capoy said the series of surrenders took place from April 24 to April 26 as part of intensified counter-insurgency operations in the region this year.

The individuals who yielded were reportedly from Eastern Samar and Northern Samar, and were said to be former members of the “Batibag” unit under the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee of the NPA.

Authorities said some of the surrenderers also turned over firearms and explosives, including a .38-caliber pistol, ammunition, a rifle, and a grenade.

Capoy noted that the development reflects the success of sustained military and police operations, as well as strengthened community engagement efforts aimed at ending the armed conflict in Eastern Visayas.

The former rebels are now under the custody of authorities for proper documentation and processing. They may also be enrolled in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP), which provides assistance and support to former insurgents seeking to reintegrate into mainstream society.
