Six have died amid the onslaught of Tropical Depression Maymay and southwest monsoon winds, reported RH 52 Edniel Parrosa on Thursday, August 6.

According to Philippine National Police (PNP) Spokesperson PCol. Allen Rae Co, this count includes the two victims from a landslide in Rizal, two more victims in another landslide in Benguet, and a newly-reported drowning victim in Region I.

The drowning victim in Luna, La Union was identified by authorities as a 45-year-old, while another in Alaminos, Pangasinan was 54 years old.

Earlier, two cooks working at a Bulalo eatery were buried under collapsed soil in La Trinidad, Benguet this morning.

Meanwhile, two siblings were trapped under a rockslide in Rodriguez, Rizal on Wednesday.

Based on police monitoring, Co said over 3,000 individuals have taken shelter in 55 evacuation centers.

In a separate interview, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Deputy Spokesperson Diego Mariano described the widespread effects of the tropical depression as challenging for authorities to mitigate.

Apart from Northern Luzon, many areas have been affected in Central Luzon, Bicol, the Zamboanga Peninsula—and casualties have also been recorded in Rizal.
