The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) announced that five cases linked to the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) have now been resolved, marking significant progress in the government’s crackdown on organized crime.
RH Jecelle Ricafort reported that among the resolved cases is that of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo and seven others, who were found guilty by the Pasig Regional Trial Court Branch 167 of Qualified Human Trafficking. The conviction stemmed from their involvement in the unlawful operations of a POGO hub in Bamban.
According to the PAOCC, out of 55 POGO-related cases, 33 are currently undergoing trial, eight remain under preliminary investigation at the Department of Justice, and 10 are in the case development stage.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to securing justice for victims of illegal detention, threats, and exploitation perpetuated by criminal groups operating under the guise of POGO hubs.
PAOCC Executive Director Usec. Benjamin Acorda described the case of Alice Guo as 'the story of a nation that refused to be deceived,' adding that the victims’ voices are now being heard in the courts.
He stressed that the outcome proves that no matter how long or extensive the deception, and no matter how powerful the mastermind, justice will still prevail.
