Firework-related injuries during the 2026 New Year’s celebrations have decreased compared to the same period last year, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

From December 21, 2025, to 4:00 a.m. on January 1, 2026, the DOH recorded 235 cases, including 62 new cases reported on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. This represents a 42% drop from the 403 total cases recorded during the 2025 New Year celebrations.

Most victims were children and teenagers, with 69% aged 19 and below and 31% aged 20 and above. The types of fireworks most commonly linked to injuries were unidentified fireworks, boga, and 5-Star.

The DOH emphasized that surveillance will continue until January 5, 2026, and warned the public to immediately seek medical attention for burns or wounds caused by fireworks to prevent serious complications, including tetanus.

Health authorities continue to urge caution and the responsible use of fireworks to minimize accidents during holiday celebrations.
