The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is conducting search and rescue (SAR) operations for four people who remain missing after a vehicle plunged into the Tarlac River following the partial collapse of Agana Bridge in Tarlac City.
The incident prompted an immediate response from Coast Guard personnel, who launched search operations to locate the missing passengers believed to have been inside the vehicle when it fell into the river.
However, SAR operations were temporarily suspended due to strong river currents and poor visibility, which posed risks to the responding rescuers.
As of August 31, the Coast Guard Station Pampanga and the Special Operations Unit NCR-Central Luzon are coordinating with local authorities and other responding agencies. The search is expected to resume once river conditions are deemed safe for rescue personnel.
The PCG is working alongside the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices of Tarlac and Nueva Ecija, the Tarlac City Police Office, and other government agencies involved in the emergency response.
Authorities continue to monitor conditions in the area while preparations are being made for the resumption of the search. The PCG emphasized that the safety of rescuers remains a priority as operations continue to locate the four missing individuals.
