Four people died during the Traslacion of Jesus Nazareno this year, authorities confirmed.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the administration of Quiapo Church reported that the fatalities included three devotees and one unidentified male, estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old.
Fr. Robert Arellano, spokesperson for Traslacion 2026, said that while three devotees passed away during the procession, the death of photojournalist Itoh Son, who was covering the traditional Pahalik, was not directly related to the Traslacion itself.
Medical teams reported a total of 1,057 cases requiring attention throughout the procession.
The event drew a record-breaking 9,640,290 devotees, according to final figures from the PNP, Quiapo Church, and the Manila City Government.
This year’s Traslacion, lasting nearly 31 hours, was both the longest and most attended processions in history.
