A 30-foot Christmas tree made by inmates was ceremonially lighted inside the Northern Samar Provincial Jail (NSPJ) in Dancalan, Bobon, marking the start of the holiday season within the facility.
The tree, crafted from recyclable materials by Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs), was unveiled under the theme “Pasko san Pagbag-o — Paglaum, Paghigugma, ngan Pagbinuligay” (Christmas of Change — Hope, Love, and Unity).
The ceremonial lighting was led by 2nd District Congressman Edwin Ongchuan and his wife, Bles Ongchuan, along with provincial officials.
The Christmas display features the inmates’ written wishes, symbolizing hope and positive transformation.
A giant illuminated star and the word “PAGLAUM” (Hope) were also installed above the jail, visible from the national road.
Provincial leaders praised the initiative for promoting creativity, environmental awareness, and rehabilitation, highlighting the jail’s ongoing programs focused on skills development, values formation, and reintegration of inmates into society.
